Washing Machine Door Won't Open — Don't Force It

The cycle is done but the door won't budge. The most important thing: don't force it. You can break the hinge, lock mechanism, or tear the rubber seal.

Why is the door locked?

• Normal delay: Most machines keep the door locked 1-3 minutes after the cycle. Just wait.
• Water still inside: If water hasn't drained, the safety system won't unlock.
• Faulty door lock (UBL): The locking device has failed and needs replacement.
• Broken handle: Plastic handles become brittle over time.

Emergency opening

• Unplug for 15-20 minutes — the lock usually releases
• Some machines have an emergency release cord near the drain filter
• A thin plastic card between door and frame can push the latch
