Washing Machine Vibrating Too Much — 6 Causes
During spin cycle your machine shakes so much it 'walks' across the room? That's not normal. A properly working machine vibrates slightly but should not move from its spot.
1. Uneven surface
Most common cause. All four legs must sit firmly on the floor. Test: place a glass of water on top — if it tilts, adjust the legs.
2. Transit bolts not removed
New machines have 3-4 bolts on the back that secure the drum during shipping. If not removed — extreme vibration and damage.
3. Worn shock absorbers
After 5-7 years they lose elasticity. Test: push the drum down and release. More than 1-2 bounces means replacement needed.
4. Loose counterweights
Concrete blocks that dampen vibration. Their bolts loosen from vibration itself — a vicious cycle.
5. Bearings and 6. Incorrect loading
Worn bearings cause drum misalignment. Uneven loads (one heavy blanket + one small towel) cause imbalance.
